No Contact No Boundaries Rep Hockey???

This is quite exciting, for those of us with kids stuck in the OMHA or Alliance zones that cannot move between towns to play where they like.  It's also a great idea for those of us with kids who are suffering from Concussions after playing in the body contact style OMHA.  I am hoping that this league is successful.  Please comment and let me know if this is for real!!

Safe Rep Hockey League Halton Expansion Tryouts

3 New Teams in Halton Announced!

Good Afternoon Parents and Players, The Safe Rep Hockey League (SRHL) is pleased to announce not only the opening of its 2014/15 Tryout Registration, but also our expansion in the Halton Region. The SRHL is a no body-contact league that offers Rep Level Hockey with No Address Boundaries. In addition to our PEEWEE, BANTAM and MIDGET Divisions, we have added an ATOM age group for the 2014/15 season. Tryouts will begin on May 31st and continue until June 22nd.  All tryouts will take place at Wave Hockey facilities (Wave Twin Rinks and Wave Sports Centre) The growth of the SRHL is being bolstered by the addition of THREE NEW TEAMS!  The Halton Ravens will be joined by: Burloak Bears Milton Warriors Burlington Cougars More teams means more spots available for the new season.  60 players positions and 8 goalie positions will be available in each Division. 2014 Tryouts, which guarantee 3 tryout skates, will be administered by our SRHL Coaches and Professional Staff. Common Sense Prevails

In light of this weekend's record setting snow fall, thank you to those hockey organizers and coaches that had the common sense to cancel hockey events, regardless of the cost.  Is it really worth it to head off to a game in life threatening weather?  Thank you to conveners and coaches, tournament organizers that cancelled, and gave us a break.  No thanks, to organizers who refused to cancel or rescheduled events.  What were you thinking?

Body Checking Opinion - Causes Resignation

Todd Millar wrote on his blog “There are so many morons in this game that can’t understand that, by simply changing a simple rule, you will save the well-being of 11- and 12-year-olds. Trouble in Cornwall Houseleague

Here is a story from Cornwall Ontario about perceived escalating violence in Minor Hockey House League and parent and coaching issues."The Cornwall Minor Hockey League last week lost a 20 year veteran volunteer coach, convenerand member of the volunteer of the board due to the lack of willingness by the league to attempt to rectify legitimate complaints by some parents. Feeling that the several needs were not heard, he escalated his lack of confidence views to a higher authority being the ODMHA and was asked to step down from the Volunteer Executive Board of the Cornwall Minor Hockey Association or be voted out at the elections which is open to the parents who have registered players in the league in March 2012." Beeton and TNT Split

" A year after striking a deal that saw a true amalgamation of New Tecumseth’s minor hockey leagues, Beeton is ready to leave the partnership."

No Port Hope and Cobourg Merger

Apparently the OMHA required 2/3 of each commnunity to vote in favour of a merger with 68% voting in favour in Cobourg and only 62.7% in Port Hope.

"BAA tells members its reapplying to OMHA as rep hockey centre

The Beeton Athletic Association (BAA) reportedly informed its members last night that it will be applying to the OMHA to reestablish itself as a rep hockey centre, ending, after one season, an arrangement with TNT Minor Hockey that opened the boundaries to kids in Beeton to play A or AA level in their town"...... "The deal forged between TNT and the BAA came after a year of contentious battling inside Beeton hockey".  Things still seem to be up in the air! 

Bracebridge and Gravenhurst Minor Hockey

Bracebridge and Gravenhurst Minor Hockey Associations are both holding votes to look at merging the two hockey organization.  The following article provides more detail:

If the idea is accepted by each association’s members, they will join a growing movement"

Ontario Human Rights Tribunal

Prior to the player movement change that was made allowing players to try out for adjacent AA centres, there was a lot of interest in an Ontario Human Rights tribunal.  I never could find out what happened there.

Beeton and TNT Agreement

"BEETON - New Tecumseth's two minor hockey associations have inked a new partnership for the upcoming season.


For the 2011-2012 hockey season, all minor hockey players in New Tecumseth and area will be eligible to tryout and play for the same rep teams. A and AA level players will be playing out of Alliston and Tottenham under the TNT Tornados name and AE players will be based out of Beeton and wear the Beeton Stingers logo."

UNB Human Rights Case

 Here is a link to a CBC story about the University of New Brunswicks women's hockey team

"Players with the team filed a human rights complaint against the university after the team was downgraded to a club from a program with varsity status in 2008.

That decision cost the women's team their ability to play in the Atlantic University Sport conference or the Canadian Interuniversity Sports national championships and most of their funding.
The University of New Brunswick, however, opted to keep its men's hockey team.
The women's hockey team argued the decision was discriminatory on the basis of gender."
