Once the hockey season begins, if you have kids in rep hockey, you can't commit to a weekly hockey camp. Sometimes however, a spot opens up in your schedule and you may want your kids to try a bit of hockey training. Draft Choice - which operates its classes out of South Fletchers in Brampton -(which is almost at the top of Mississauga), offers Saturday Pay As You Go sessions. They are good sessions and although they do have a lot of kids in them, the instructors make a point of stopping and correcting each player in almost every drill. In a lot of other classes, your kids just go through drills with a large group and never get specific instruction. The classes are very specific with lots of puck control. Stay and observe the classes and determine if they are a fit for your child. Not all kids enjoy correction and feedback, so discuss this with your hockey player. This class is worth a try - wear something warm and stand inside and watch and listen - there are no seats inside the rink and it's cold.
Here is the quote from owner/head instructor Wayne Gagne:
"This past summer was great in all our programs and we received many emails complimenting our staff and the improvements parents saw in their kids. There are way too many hockey programs out there and it is unfortunate many parents need to spend money trying to see what works best for their child. We have the same comments from all the parents...."Your staff stops my kid and corrects!!" Too many instructors just stand and watch. No feedback and no skills focus....just drills, drills, drills. Stop spending all those dollars elsewhere...try our program and see the difference....We Are Teachers...it is our Job...We know how to Teach!!
Our Saturdays we will be running for our 14th year in a row. South Fletchers arena from 12:30-2:30pm. These sessions are for players to maintain their speed with and without the puck that they developed in our summer programs. The weekly focus will be progressive throughout the year. One week we may teach and develop "gaining the blueline, while the next week we may teach pass reception, and acceleration. Our classes will demonstrate growth throughout the year for the players.
12:30-1:30pm - This hour is intense and challenges the players to remain technical while improving speed and upper body control. This is where our motto of
"Quick Head, Quick Feet, Quick Hands," comes to life!!
1:30pm-2:30pm - This is the Skills to Concept hour where we take the skills from the first hour and teach the players how to use them effectively in game situations no matter what position you play. There is a battle zone, scoring zone, defensive zone and a passing zone.
Hopefully we will see you sometime on a Saturday. They start this week and we are looking forward to getting back on the ice to work with all our Future Draft Choices!!

If you have a goalie - give them an email - goalies may be put on an email list for target practice for camps. This was always a great practice for my goalie between sessions with an actual trainer and games, and it was free at the time.
